This is a little side project of mine, perhaps it'll just stay a blog, or perhaps one day I'll be able to play with completed alters. Regardless, I thought it would be fun to take DC's Iconic Justice League and cast them as MtG Legendary Creatures. When I say "cast", I'm saying that if i decided to make a deck revolving around that hero, with their gadgets, hometown, bases, allies and enemies, this is the card I would choose to be the Commander for that deck. Each card is chosen partially on Artwork(how easy would this card be to alter into the chosen superhero?), partially on the Effect, and partially on overall feel after an Alter.
If you have any suggestions, whether it be an alternate card, thoughts on my reflection, or just a link to a more suitable picture, be sure to leave a comment!
Just for reference, this was done by going to Gatherer and looking up all legendary creatures in Modern. I chose Modern cause I like the card frame. Here's the link:
Batman
Of course, we start with the World's Greatest Detective, the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, Batman. It's quite fitting that Toshiro Umezawa is also the hero of Kamigawa, but really, its the art that captures the "Batman" here for me. The fact that he's a samurai, cleaning a weapon, enshrouded in deep browns and oranges really sells it. I knew right on that the Batman card had to be black, and while Vampire Nighthawk has tons of things going for him, (See here: http://goo.gl/iZiEw) I think a founder of the Justice League HAS to be a Legendary Creature. Plus, if you take Toshiro's effect into play, its like saying, "Every time you put down an enemy, re-use one of your old gadgets, then throw it away."(It's a stretch, I know.) Toshiro even has that little ornament in his hair, it looks like a mini-cowl!
